Viking Longboat Race
20 August 2011
Every year, Boston enters a team into the World Championship Viking Long Boat races, which have been running on the Isle of Man since 1963. The event sees over 70 teams racing in Viking-style wooden boats, inspired by the ships which helped the Vikings to make the voyage to the Isle of Man hundreds of years ago.

Boston has been a regular competitor for many years, and 2011 was no exception. The weeks leading up the event saw the Boston team practicing their rowing abilities in the cold Manx seas – showing real dedication to the cause! The mixed Boston team stood out from the crowd in their uniform of bright pink polo shirts.
The post-event food and drink was funded by the Boston Social Committee, who were thrilled that so many staff and family were able to come down to support the event. Although sadly the team did not win any prizes, lots of fun was had by all participants and their enthusiastic supporters and it was a brilliant day for everyone involved.
